If you want to fish:
It is recommended to put together a trolling rig. For example, the venerable old Penn Senator, on a short (6′) stout rod. A good gaff for getting gamefish in. A fish billy for beating them senseless. A basic fighting belt that is quick and easy to get on and off. A good fillet knife or two.
If you just want to eat fish; a yoyo rig loaded with very heavy mono (80 – 110lb test), a few feet of large diameter bungie or surgical tubing, stainless leader material, an assortment of big hooks, a gaff, and a fish billy. A lot less sport in this set up, but it puts meat on the table.
